What is the function of the turbocharger bypass valve?
2022-09-19 10:06The function of the turbocharger bypass valve is to protect the turbine from excessive
turbine pressure. The functions of the bypass valve are described as follows:
1. To understand the use of bypass valve, first of all, the working principle of the steam
turbine. A turbocharger consists of two parts, one exhaust turbine and the other
compression turbine. The exhaust turbine is connected to the exhaust manifold, and
when the engine reaches a certain speed, the exhaust gas has enough energy to drive
the exhaust turbine to spin. After the exhaust gas starts to spin, the compressor turbine
will also spin, so that the compressor turbine can compress the air and blow into the
air red, thus increasing the power of the engine. If the engine speed is too high, the
pressure on the exhaust turbine will increase, and if there is no device, the turbine will
explode. Therefore, the device of bypass valve appeared.
2. When the exhaust turbine pressure is too high, the bypass valve will be opened, so
that the exhaust gas from the engine will be directly discharged without passing
through the exhaust turbine, thus avoiding the phenomenon of excessive turbine
pressure. General turbocharged engines are equipped with mechanical bypass valves,
some high-end turbocharged engines are equipped with electronic bypass valves.
Electronic bypass valve control more accurate, faster response. The bypass valve prevents
the turbine pressure from being too high and also prevents the turbine from turning too
fast. If the turbine speed is too high, it can also damage the turbine.
