What is a turbocharger
2023-03-06 15:56The turbocharger of most vehicles is basically close to the exhaust manifold. You can open the engine cover and have a look. Some cars have exhaust manifolds in front and some cars have exhaust manifolds in rear.
The turbocharger is composed of two parts, one is the intake turbine and the other is the exhaust turbine. The exhaust turbine is connected with the exhaust manifold. When the engine reaches the required speed, the exhaust has enough energy to drive the exhaust turbine to rotate.
The exhaust turbine and the intake turbine are coaxial connected. After the exhaust turbine rotates, the intake turbine will also start to rotate, so that the sub-intake turbine can compress air and blow it into the cylinder.
You can add the amount of air into the engine without increasing the engine displacement, which will improve the engine power.
Turbocharging technology was first applied to aircraft engines. Turbocharging technology can solve the problem of insufficient air intake encountered by aircraft engines at high altitude.
The turbocharged engine needs an intercooler to heat the intake air. During the process of pressurizing the air, the temperature of the air will rise. If there is no intercooler to heat the intake air, it will seriously affect the normal operation of the engine.
